TOUCH for VJs Touch adds to your arsenal of tools for creating impressive visual performances. Allowing for creation of interactive 2D and 3D environments with TouchDesigner and manipulating them in real-time through TouchMixer, Touch tools open up new possibilities for artists to create, arrange and re-time visuals in your basement, studio, club or stage. Touch is rooted in 3D animation and seeks to make live visuals as performable as music. Uniting QuickTime loops with live controller-based manipulation of 3D models, textures, lights and cameras, TouchDesigner and TouchMixer are a unique resource for VJs. Most VJs start with TouchArt, over 50 pre-made visual synths with much more fleibility than any suite of video loops. To create your own custom synths, use TouchDesigner to utilize textures video loops and live video sources and wrap it on any 2D or 3D surface, generating realistic or abstract imagery. In TouchMixer you can perform and record your gestures onto a timeline, editing several takes into a full composition, which you can later play back fully-shaded in realtime, or simply make QuickTime movies. 3D shapes, their lighting, distortions, and camera moves - many of these parameters can be looped and animated. In addition, you can create a flat surface object onto which to project your movies or live feed, thus generating a 2D surface perfect for triggering loops and QuickTimes. The flexibility of Touch allows you to control any animation property you want and being portable, all you need is a laptop or desktop computer with a decent 3D graphics card equipped with Touch and projectors to display and control your visuals. Files created in TouchDesigner are called "synths". Each person plays a synth differently due to its interactive nature, thus affording a great range of expression through a variety of controls and parameters you set! With TouchMixer, use MIDI devices to control the synths, and create presets for your performance while you run in dual monitor to output your main image to video devices.
